Write the funnier answer, win the vote

Like Quiplash? Play this free

Short answer: Quiplash is not free. Each version is sold by Jackbox Games (or comes with a Netflix subscription), and only the host needs it. Sucker Punchline is a free browser game in the same write-a-funny-answer, room-votes style, with its own prompts and a fight-night twist. Not affiliated with Jackbox Games.

Sucker Punchline in 60 seconds

It is a write-and-vote comedy game built as a boxing match. Everything below is how our game works; Jackbox explains its own rules on its site [11].

  • 3 to 8 fighters join on their phones. Everyone else joins the crowd, up to 200 more.
  • Two prompts each per round. You get 80 seconds to write, with a SPARK button for an angle when you are stuck.
  • Head to head. Every prompt is a bout between two fighters. Both answers are read aloud, then everyone who did not write that prompt votes. Win every fighter's vote (it takes at least two) and it is a KNOCKOUT, worth bonus points.
  • Two rounds, then the Main Event. One last prompt for everyone. Each voter gets 3 punches to spread over the answers they like, and each punch is worth triple.
  • Short on people? The Show Runner adds up to 5 AI fighters, so one or two people can play.

How it compares

Same spirit

The same idea: a shared screen shows the prompts and answers, phones are the controllers, and the funniest line wins the room. The boxing names (bouts, knockouts, the Main Event) are ours.

Different on purpose

  • Free for the host, in a browser, nothing to install on the TV side.
  • Remote play works the same way as with Quiplash: someone shares the game screen on a video call.
  • AI fighters, so it works with one or two people.
  • The crowd counts as one extra voter, so a big audience can tip a close bout without taking over.
  • Every answer is read aloud by a voice, and a ring announcer calls the fight.
  • Our own prompts, written for this game. None come from Quiplash.

Where Quiplash wins

Quiplash 3 and Quiplash XL support audiences of up to 10,000 [3] [4], far past our 200, and the Jackbox packs bundle Quiplash with other games for variety. Jackbox's newest pack is also announced for consoles and Apple TV [9]; we run in a browser.

Try a few of our prompts

Every prompt has a house answer, used if a fighter runs out of time. Here are six, with their house answers:

  • The ref just stopped the fight because ___

    House answer: Somebody's mom called.

  • You just got knocked out by a pillow. What's your excuse?

House answer: It was pre-fluffed. That's a weapon.

  • Trash talk your opponent at the weigh-in. You're both hamsters.

House answer: Your wheel squeaks. Everyone hears it.

  • Page 47 of the toaster manual has one warning. What is it?

House answer: Do not make eye contact with the bagel.

  • Write a loading screen tip, but for real life

House answer: Tip: There is no save button.

  • You're retiring from joke fighting. Give your farewell speech.

House answer: I was never funny. You were just tired.

More in the prompt sampler.

Questions

Is there a free version of Quiplash?

Not from Jackbox. Quiplash and Quiplash 2 InterLASHional are $9.99 each on Steam [1] [2], the other versions come in party packs from $19.99 [8], and Quiplash 3 also comes with a Netflix subscription [10]. Sucker Punchline is a free game in the same style.

Which Jackbox pack has Quiplash?

Quiplash XL is in The Jackbox Party Pack 2 [4], Quiplash 2 in The Jackbox Party Pack 3 [5], and Quiplash 3 in The Jackbox Party Pack 7 [7] and The Jackbox Party Starter [8]. The original Quiplash and Quiplash 2 InterLASHional are sold on their own [1] [2].

Can I use Quiplash prompts in Sucker Punchline?

No. The game only uses its own prompt bank, written for it. You can read a sample of them on the prompt sampler page.

Does it work with two people?

Yes. Add AI fighters from the Show Runner's phone. They answer and vote, and step aside when a real person joins.
